If you're wondering how much an eye exam costs or whether we take your insurance—you’re not alone. These are some of the most common questions we hear from new patients. Here's everything you need to know before booking your appointment at our office.
How Much Does an Eye Exam Cost?
For patients who are paying out-of-pocket (self-pay), we charge 80% of the Medicare allowable rate.
Here’s a breakdown of what that looks like:
· Comprehensive Eye Exam: $130.70
· Refraction (needed for a glasses prescription): $50
· Total for Self-Pay Patients: $180.70
If you're interested in contact lenses, a contact lens fitting may be added. That fee ranges between $70 and $105, depending on the complexity of the fit.
How Do I Know If You Accept My Insurance?
The short answer: Call us! But here’s why.
Many patients aren't sure who their vision insurance carrier is—and that's totally normal. Most vision plans (like VSP or EyeMed) are separate from your medical insurance and aren’t always clearly listed on your insurance card.
If you’re not sure, here’s what to do:
1. Check the back of your insurance card and call the Member Services number.
2. Ask: “Who is my vision benefits provider?”
3. Share that info with us, and we’ll be able to verify your benefits quickly.
If you don’t have a card (some plans like VSP don’t issue them), just let us know your medical insurance carrier—we can often track it down from there.
What About Copays?
Copays vary depending on your individual plan. Some patients have no copay, while others may have a $10 to $30 copay. It all depends on your insurance provider and your specific coverage.
Once we verify your insurance, we’ll be able to tell you exactly what your copay will be before your visit.
Yes, We Accept Self-Pay Patients!
If you don’t have insurance or prefer to pay out of pocket, we’re happy to see you. As mentioned above, our pricing for self-pay patients is transparent and affordable—and we’ll always let you know what to expect upfront
